I got new dreadlocks, now what!?

Welcome to the club dread head!

Here you will find everything you need to know about caring for your new dreadlocks to give you the best results!

1. Don't wash your hair for the first 5 days after getting new dreadlocks installed

- The reason you don't want to wash your new dreadlocks after installation is to give them time to lock. When washing your hair, the water will expand the hair follicles making them bigger and easier to move around. Keeping them dry will give them the right start they need to become lush locks!

2. Now its time to wash your hair

- After getting through the no washing period, you can now wash your new dreadlocks! Its recommended you use an all natural shampoo or a natural dreadlock shampoo. You will be given a bottle of The Dread Empire Shampoo for free during your dreadlock installation appointment! It's recommended to wash dreadlocks 1 x a week.

3. Prevent any damp smells

- If you wash your dreadlocks, you must dry them! Dreadlocks take longer to dry than normal hair so it's recommended to wash your dreadlocks in the morning, this will give you plenty of time to try the through out the day. Wrap your dreadlocks into a micro fiber towel which ill soak up all the water and moister. Also use the natural elements of sun and wind to help dry your hair during the day.

- Using a hair dryer can be harsh on your dreadlocks but sometimes we don't have an option! To help it not be so harsh on your hair, get yourself a hair dryer diffuser to disperse the air flow of a blow dryer and spread it over a larger area.

4. Palm rolling after every wash

- Its important to palm roll your dreadlocks from roots to tips after every time you wash them. Start the palm rolling when your dreadlocks are still damp, this will help any loose hairs to stick back into the dreadlock that might of moved when washing.

5. Sea salt is your friend

- Its recommended to mist your new dreadlocks with a salt spray to help the locking process. For the best results, mist your hair right after washing when still damp and start palm rolling, you can repeat this after drying. The Salt Spray recipe is available in another blog on my site.

6. What are mature dreadlocks?

- Mature dreadlocks are when the dreadlocks have fully taken form, are tighter and a little harder. This stage is the final stage of the dreadlocks cycle.

7. How long will it take for my dreadlocks to mature?

- Your dreadlocks will start to mature from 6 months to 1 year depending on the hair texture, thickness and lifestyle.

8. Enjoy your new dreadlocks!

Peace
